The Un-Gym

What we mean by PRIVATE Personal Training

My studio is completely private--meaning no one else will be there while you (or you and your partner or small group) is training. No waiting for equipment, no people watching what you're doing, no intrusive music blaring (you can listen to whatever you choose)... no judgement on what you're wearing, no one filming without your consent--ever!  


The gym is sanitized after each client or group, and it is stocked with everything we need to provide the best workout possible including free weights, a cable crossover machine, stability and balance training equipment, resistance bands, TRX-type training equipment and more.

Who I Am

Verna Chan - BCRPA Certified Trainer

With close to 20 years experience as a personal trainer, I take your fitness goals seriously and have a great understanding of the best way to get you to those goals. Whether you want to improve your cardiovascular health, increase muscle mass and flexibility, recover from injury, train for a sport or event--I'm here to help! 

Training Expertise

Over the years I've participated in every sport possible-- swimming, tennis, basketball, track, volleyball, rock climbing, roller derby--I realized early on that weight training was the best way to keep active in off-season times and help to avoid injuries and improve performance.


I started weight training over 40 years ago and began pursuing professional certification after years of people asking me how I trained and wanting advice--I wanted to make sure that I was giving the most educated answers possible. I am currently certified by the BCRPA in Weight Training, Personal Training and Older Adult Fitness. I continue to attend workshops and courses that help me to stay current with fitness knowledge. I have instructed many classes including core, boot camp, spin, high intensity interval training (HIIT) and more. I have also led a workshop on body weight exercise for BCFIT (pre-covid), taped a number of 30-Minute HIIT programs for TV - Coast Cable (Sunshine Coast) and created a body weight exercise game called Fit in a Flash.

I understand that adapting new fitness habits is challenging. My goal is to help you find the fun in fitness and find ways to fit fitness into your life, so that it becomes a part of who you are and your lifestyle. I strongly believe that if you develop healthy habits, you will be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I hope to make your journey easier by offering a safe, private space to start your journey and help you to find the best ways for you to stay active in ways that complement your lifestyle and you can maintain.
